The Port of Buenos Aires is the principal maritime port in Argentina. ►Operated by the Administración General de Puertos (General Ports Administration), a State enterprise, it is the leading transshipment point for the foreign trade of Argentina. The current port is located in the city's Retiro ward, and is colloquially known as Puerto Nuevo (New Port). The Port of Buenos Aires handles around 11 million metric tons of cargo annually; Dock Sud, which is owned by the Province of Buenos Aires, is south of the city proper, and handles another 17 million metric tons. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ►Really hope you enjoy it! In later decades, this was limited mainly to tourist visitors to Argentina, as well as Argentine visitors to Uruguay. A fast ferry service operated by Buquebus and Ferrylíneas operates short routes to and from the Uruguayan cities of Colonia del Sacramento and Montevideo; Sturla transports tourists to and from Tigre, a popular weekend destination. The Benito Quinquela Martín Terminal, inaugurated in 2000, served 120 cruise ship arrivals with a total of 100,000 visitors in 2010. Quinquela Martín was a local Realist painter known for his use of the port and its workers as imagery.

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) - Germany and Argentina have agreed on fostering multilateral trade and protecting the environment from climate change, Chancellor Angela Merkel said Thursday during a visit to the South American country. Merkel is visiting Latin America through a series of trips ahead of July's G-20 summit in Germany. The chancellor has criticized the U.S. protectionist stance and called President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from the Paris climate pact "extremely regrettable." In a press conference with President Mauricio Macri, Merkel said both nations want to be part of an "interconnected world" and are committed to defending the Paris accord. World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Buenos Aires - Argentina Travel Guide http://bit.ly/17JbKIz Shopping in Buenos Aires, Argentina Buenos Aires offers some of the most sophisticated shopping in Latin America. The quality can be excellent, especially with leather items. Maté sets -- Argentina's national drink -- make good presents, as do silver jewellery, wines and the odd tin of dulce de leche (sweet, sticky caramelised milk). Key areas: For leather goods, try Welcome, Calle Marcelo T de Alvear 500 and San Martin, and Dalla Fontana, Calle Reconquista 735. Calle Florida is packed with cheap fashions, while Palermo Viejo is full of boutiques. Fair Trade leather products and textiles from local communities are available from Pasion Argentina, Emilio Ravignani 1780, and Tierra Adentro, Arroyo 882. Ethical South American crafts and textiles can be found at Arte Etnico Argentino, El Salvador 4656, Palermo Viejo. Art lovers will find great pieces in amongst the masses at La Boca. Markets: The best place to search for antiques and colonial paintings is at and around the Sunday Feria de San Pedro Telmo flea market at Plaza Dorrego. The Hippie Fair in front of the Centro Cultural Recoleta is a colourful place to browse for handicrafts, jewellery and artwork at weekends. Shopping centres: You'll find many shopping malls across Buenos Aires. Two of the most popular are Galerias Pacifico, Calle Florida and Calle Córdoba, and Patio Bullrich, Avenida del Libertador 750 and Posadas 1245. Opening hours: Shopping hours in Buenos Aires are Monday to Friday 0900-2000 and Saturday 0900-1300, although malls are generally open daily 1000-2200. Tax information: Purchase tax or VAT, known as IVA (Impuesto de Valor Agregado), stands at 21% and is placed on everything with the exception of medicines and food. Tax-free shopping is available at certain outlets; look for the 'Tax Free Shopping' logo. On purchasing goods costing 70 Pesos or more, visitors can receive a refund for the tax, minus an admin fee. On leaving Argentina, the goods with receipts should be presented at customs before check-in and the refund collected at a separate kiosk. ============================ Buenos Aires Videos, Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires Tourism, Buenos Aires Travel Guide, Buenos Aires Vacation, Buenos Aires tours, Buenos Aires Attractions, Buenos Aires Restaurants, Buenos Aires Shopping, Buenos Aires Transport, Buenos Aires Museums, Argentina, Argentina Travel Guide, Argentina Tourism, Argentina Vacation, United States of America

The Buenos Aires Customs House (Aduana) is a government building and architectural landmark in the Montserrat section of Buenos Aires. The French neoclassical building housing the Argentine General Customs Directorate (DGA) was commissioned during the administration of President José Figueroa Alcorta, and resulted from the marked expansion in Argentine foreign trade and the economy in the generation up to 1910, when the nation's GDP was estimated to have grown by over 8% a year. bLocal architects Eduardo Lanús and Pablo Hary were commissioned in 1909 to design the new administrative offices for the Aduana, which was noteworthy not only for its 100 metres (328 ft) façade and its two turrets, but also for its use of carrara marble cladding throughout, as well as its numerous allegorical details such as the ornamental bull's heads and the marble caryatids along the cornice, some bearing intricate wrought-iron acanthus and laurel wreaths.

http://www.euronews.com/ The European Union has filed a complaint with the World Trade Organisation against import restrictions imposed by Argentina, adding to Buenos Aires tensions with its trading partners. The EU's executive Commission said the case followed measures by Argentina that include an import licensing regime and an obligation on companies to balance imports with exports. That follows the Argentine government's controversial seizure of control of the country's biggest oil firm, YPF, a subsidiary of Spain's Repsol. The EU Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht told euronews there was no direct link to the nationalisation of Repsol's YPF subsidiary. He said: "We've been investigating this restrictive import regime issue for months. This complicated case is now ready which is why we've announced what we're doing. But of course the re-nationalisation of Repsol is further evidence of a restrictive trade policy and nationalism in Argentina; true, it's another example, but there's no direct link." After the YPF/Repsol nationalisation, 19 WTO members including the US, Japan, South Korea and Australia, expressed concern about Argentina's restrictive trade measures. Argentina said it is only moving to support its economy and reindustrialise the country. EU exports to Argentina include cars, motorcycles, textiles, toys and footwear, and last year were worth 8.3 billion euros. The Argentine Ministry of the Economy has, since the building's 1939 inaugural, been based in a 14-story Rationalist office building designed by local architect Carlos Pibernat. The Economy Ministry building was built on a 0.57 ha (1.4 ac) Montserrat neighborhood lot facing the Casa Rosada presidential office building to the north, and the Defense Ministry (Libertador Building) to the east – a government building also designed by Pibernat. The building's lobby was decorated with murals painted by the architect's brother, Antonio Pibernat, a post-impressionist painter influenced by the naturalist Barbizon School. The post has existed on a formal basis since the 1826 inaugural of Bernardino Rivadavia, who named lawmaker Salvador María del Carril as the nation's first official Ministro de Hacienda. The office became among the most powerful in Argentine Government during the generation after 1880, when English Argentine investment, foreign trade, and immigration spurred development. Customs collections (source of over half of public revenues at the time) and the Central Bank were among the responsibilities placed under the Economy Ministry's aegis, and successive ministers' policies were often enacted through presidential decrees. Its influence grew further when it absorbed the cabinet post of Minister of Public Works in 1991, to help facilitate Economy Minister Domingo Cavallo's privatizations initiative, and, in turn, divested oversight over the nation's goods-producing sectors with the 2008 designation of the Production Ministry by President Cristina Kirchner, in a bid to improve strained relations with the country's agrarian sector following the 2008 Argentine government conflict with the agricultural sector over export tariffs. The Ministry of the Economy was appropriated a US$1.7 billion operational budget in 2009, and employed over 4,000 staffers.
